Marathon-Mack does 125 km at the Euros A
Wednesday, 07 July 2010
Last week the European Championship 1/8th Scale IC Track was held at the challenging track of Locorotondo, Italy. Shepherd factory driver Oliver Mack showed a great performance on the final Sunday bumping up three times, reaching the 4th place and racing the most laps of all competitors without having any technical problem.

After qualifying it didn't look like Mack had any chances to reach the final. Due to some bad luck he was ranked on 41st position which meant that he had to start his quest in the 1/8th final A. It was no problem for him to bump up and also the quarterfinal was no challenge as he reached the semi final easily. As he already bumped up twice Mack didn't expect anything for the semis, but after a great 20 min run he crossed the finishing line in second position which meant the 7th place on the starting grid for the main final.

At the beginning of the final he was hit by another car, but step by step he climbed up the ranking list until he finished on a great 4th position. In total and without the warm up time he did about 380 laps or 125 km on a single day with his Velox V8 without replacing any sparepart. His Novarossi Flash.21 engine ran flawless from the start of the 1/8th finale to the checkered flag at the end of the mainfinal. Mack's pitcrew Armin Weihert and Patrick Schäfer did 26 fuel stopps without a single flame-out or any other trouble.

Remarkable was also the performance of young Team Shepherd racer Simon Kurzbuch. After qualifying the swiss driver was ranked on a good 14th position directly in the semi-final. He did a great race in the semi-final but unfortunately he missed the main final by only 0,3 sec and placed 11th overall. Also Daniele Ielasi and Patrick Schäfer qualified directly for the semi final but both had technical problems and he to retire early while being in good positions with chances to reach the final.
